Spiral Praxis Advanced Studies Program:
Intensive Somatics Training

Officially certified by the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA)*, the Spiral Praxis Advanced Studies program is a two year, 1500 hour training for passionate somatics practitioners. It offers prospective students with a comprehensive, hands-on training in cutting-edge somatic techniques and also provides rigorous, world-class training in advanced applications of somatic movement re-education and research.

Program Structure

The program curriculum is divided into four stages. The core 1500 hour program takes 2 years to complete with an additional 1-2 years for those who wish to gain master teacher certification:

July 24–August 27, 2017. This introduction module is highly experiential-based and is designed for anyone with an interest in learning more about the basic bodymind techniques employed in Spiral Praxis. Students will be introduced to basic somatic movement activities, internal flow techniques, and bodywork/touch principles. It will help students understand how the bodymind can be directed from within, as well as how these experiences can lead to creative ways to help others learn about their bodies. Highly recommended not only to prospective somatic practitioners but also for meditators, yogis, athletes, dancers, dance therapists and other body-based enthusiasts.

***SPASP candidates are required to take both modules.***

Semester One: October 9, –December 17, 2017. Semester Two: January 2–March 11, 2018. Semester Three: March 26, –June 3, 2018. The theme of the level one module is somatic embodiment and understanding. Students will be provided with (1) a solid foundation of Spiral Praxis theory and practice, and (2) will be challenged to create self-embodiment projects to practically apply their understanding to personal somatic obstacles and goals. Much of class time will be devoted to the exploration of body-based activities such as yoga, meditation, and fitness as well as for exploratory and creative movement improvisation. A sketch of all the major anatomical organ systems will also be covered. By the end of this module, students will be able to teach general somatic classes for both children and adults and will be given their Somatic Movement Educator certificate and SPASP level 1 certificate (after fulfillment of appropriate contact hours).
Semester One: October 9, –December 17, 2017. Semester Two: January 2, –March 11, 2018. Semester Three: March 26, –June 3, 2018. The SPASP level two module is designed for those who wish to apply Spiral Praxis to specialized somatic areas such as injury rehabilitation, somatic thinking/feeling, human creativity and potentiality. Students who pursue this path will delve into the finer points of Spiral Praxis methodology, anatomy, and somatic psychology. Diagnostic procedures, treatment progression, somatic ethics are some of the issues which will be covered. In this demanding level of study, students are required to undergo a series of 8 sessions with a qualified Spiral Praxis practitioner, participate in regular contact hours with clients, and pass a final test to show their competence in somatic practice. After successful completion of these requirements students will be given their SPASP level 2 certification.
SPASP level 3 certification is reserved for those practitioners who wish to learn about the cutting-edge research that is possible using advanced Spiral Praxis techniques. The range of research topics is quite large, including accelerated somatic learning, advanced flow patterning, Spiral Praxis applications in music and dance, cognitive and emotional re-patterning, among others. Students are encouraged to design their own program in addition to learning a core curriculum of cutting-edge Spiral Praxis topics. Successful completion of this module will certify a student as a master somatic teacher and will allow him/her to teach Spiral Praxis to others. Fellowships are available for exceptional students.
